Gov.Oyebanji Challenges Universities: Produce Problem Solvers

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has emphasized the pivotal role of universities in Nigeria, urging them to prioritize research efforts aimed at addressing the nation’s critical challenges and producing graduates who are adept at providing innovative solutions. The call was made by Governor Oyebanji during his address at the 8th convocation ceremony of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, on Saturday.

Governor Oyebanji underscored the importance of nurturing a generation of problem solvers capable of driving sustainable development, urging universities to revamp their curricula to emphasize critical thinking, creativity, and entrepreneurship. The Governor emphasized the urgent need for homegrown solutions to Nigeria’s diverse challenges, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with practical skills and real-world experience through hands-on learning and industry partnerships.

During the event, attended by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and other distinguished personalities, Governor Oyebanji commended the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, for its remarkable achievements within its eight years of establishment. He lauded the institution’s phenomenal growth and the quality of scholarship it has fostered, from 5,041 students to 51,000 in less than eight years.

Governor Oyebanji congratulated the graduands and encouraged them to leverage the training and knowledge acquired to make meaningful contributions to society. He reiterated his government’s commitment to collaborating with the institution for its continued development and growth.

In his closing remarks, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the imperative for universities to prioritize research and produce solution providers, affirming his government’s dedication to supporting educational institutions strengthen innovation and addressing societal challenges. The highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of honorary degrees on three eminent personalities, including Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele; Senator Solomon Adeola; and Rt Hon Yusuf Adamu, in recognition of their dedication, achievements, and commitment to excellence in their respective fields.
