The BAO AGENDA 2026 Group has issued a comprehensive rebuttal to recent claims by perpetual governorship aspirant in the state Engr. Kayode Ojo on reconnecting Ekiti’s grid, asserting that Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has not only already achieved this but has moved beyond mere “reconnection” to a robust, sustainable power solution for the state.

in a statement by the Group’s state coordinator Hon.Moshood Lawal (Bamayi)released in Ado-Ekiti on Friday co-signed by its Secretary General Hon.Olufemi Aduloju and Public Relations/Media Officer Ms Yewande Aribasoye described Ojo’s promise as “an antiqued solution to a problem already solved by a forward-thinking administration,” referencing the governor’s multi-faceted approach to the electricity crisis.

Citing verifiable projects documented on the official state portal, the group highlighted that the Oyebanji administration inherited a N1.7 Billion electricity debt and has consistently paid it down to ensure the state’s good standing with the electricity body. This, they stated, directly tackled the “accumulated bills” mentioned in their initial statement.

Beyond debt clearance, the group pointed to the massive infrastructure deployment under the “Light Up Ekiti” initiative. This program, a cornerstone of the BAO administration, has seen the government procure and distribute high-capacity transformers to communities across the 16 Local Government Areas, far exceeding the mentioned Ijan-Ilumoba-Ayekire-Gbonyi axis. Furthermore, the administration has invested hundreds of millions in the procurement of dedicated electricity lines and the installation of modern street lights across major towns to enhance security and economic activity at night.

The most significant proof of foresight, the group argued, is the nearing completion of the multi-billion Naira Independent Power Project (IPP) in Ado- Ekiti. This project, designed to generate 5 Megawatts of power, is aimed at providing uninterrupted electricity to key government facilities and surrounding communities, effectively moving the state towards energy independence and making mere “grid reconnection” promises obsolete.

The group explained that the Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s government has also rehabilitated and reconnected Gbonyin/ Aiyekire and Ekiti East 33KV line to the national grid, evacuated energy from the 30MVA transformer at the TCN facility at Omisanjana to the Industrial and Tourism zone of Erijiyan and Ikogosi, extension of electricity to the Agric Processing Zone in Iyemero from Eruku in Kwara State as well as the rehabilitation of 33KV network from Ilumoba to Ikole Ekiti as against the former connection to Omu-aran feeder, among other interventions in the power sector.

They further noted that his government has been able to increase the commercial hours of the state capital by changing the conventional streetlight lamps to solar lamps to improve economic activities in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, while efforts are being put in place to replicate same across the local government areas.
The statement concluded by urging Ekiti people to reject what it called “political scavengers who reappear every election cycle with empty promises.” The BAO AGENDA 2026 Group called for continued support for Governor Oyebanji, whose proven track record and strategic vision, they assert, are what Ekiti State needs to solidify its gains and secure a brighter, well-lit future.
