EKITI BCOC DIRECTOR-GENERAL URGES COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship (BCOC) Ekiti State, Hon. Mrs Olawumi Famuyiwa has called on residents to embrace corporate social responsibility and community volunteerism to support the State’s developmental efforts.

Speaking during the Yoruba program “OSELU GBODE” on Progress FM, Famuyiwa emphasized the importance of maintaining government properties and ensuring their security. She urged citizens to switch off all electrical appliances before leaving home to conserve energy.

“Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, and for the people,” Famuyiwa stated, highlighting the role each family plays in shaping a responsible society. She noted that when individuals fulfill their civic duties at home, they are better prepared to take on leadership roles in the community.

Mrs. Famuyiwa praised Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for exemplifying the Ekiti ethos of “Omoluabi,” which emphasizes integrity and respect. She urged the youth to reconnect with their cultural roots and prioritize local values over foreign influences.

Addressing the youth directly, she encouraged them to associate with positive peer groups and to avoid negative influences. Famuyiwa noted that her team had visited public secondary schools in Ado Ekiti for the promotion of “ISE LOOGUN ISE” principle with plans to extend outreach to other Local Government Areas and primary schools, aiming to instill good values from a young age.

Additionally, she discussed a collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency to raise awareness about the dangers of flooding and the impact of waste disposal on waterways.

The program concluded with a commendation from Mrs. Bola of BASIRI Ado Ekiti who called in on phone during the program to express her support for the Director-General’s initiatives and offered to volunteer efforts to promote Ekiti values among parents and youth.
