FEMALE STUDENTS IN EKITI STATE URGED TO EMBRACE DILIGENCE ,VISION FOR FUTURE

Female students in Ekiti State have been urged to embrace diligence, avoid procrastination, and envision their futures during the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child celebration. The call was made by Hon. (Mrs.) Olawumi Famuyiwa, the Director-General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship, who served as the guest speaker at the event organized by the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti State Chapter.

Speaking on the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” Mrs. Famuyiwa emphasized the critical role of the girl child in society. She highlighted that the ages of 0 to 18 represent a crucial learning phase for girls, one that must be nurtured and protected against negative influences. “A girl can bring about significant change, and it is essential to recognize the emotional depth she possesses,” Mrs. Famuyiwa noted.

The Director-General encouraged students to embody honesty and obedience in their daily lives, stressing that these virtues are foundational for personal and communal growth.

In her welcome address, Alhaja Adewumi Ademiju, Chairperson of NAWOJ Ekiti State Chapter, expressed gratitude to all attendees, acknowledging the challenges posed by the current economic climate. She extended her thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the program.

Comrade Ronke Samo, Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Zone B, also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the importance of girls as nation builders. She urged them to protect their lives and futures diligently.

Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, in his goodwill message, commended NAWOJ for organizing the event and urged participants to pay close attention to the life lessons shared during the program. He highlighted the sensitivity of females, given the significant roles they play in society.

The event featured several activities aimed at empowering young girls, including sensitization on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine by a health educator from the Ekiti State Primary Health Development Agency, the distribution of sanitary pads to female students, and health tips for participants.

This year’s celebration served as a reminder of the potential within every girl and the importance of supporting them in realizing their dreams for a brighter future.
