Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, came to a halt as the community paid tribute to Aare Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) and the Afe Babalola Multisystem Hospital, in a historic celebration themed “Afe Babalola Day.” The event marked the first time an individual received such a distinguished honour from the people of Ado Ekiti, recognizing Babalola’s immense contributions to education, healthcare, and development in Nigeria.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Babatunde Olofinbiyi, CEO of the ADOLFRIC organization, lauded Aare Babalola’s philanthropic achievements, describing him as a “rare and remarkable African philanthropist” whose impact extends across all sectors of society. Dr. Olofinbiyi highlighted Babalola’s visionary leadership and commitment to self-reliance, asserting, “Nigeria would be a better place if its leaders embraced the foresight of this statesman.” He further praised Babalola’s enduring legacy as a model for aspiring leaders across generations.
Dr. Olofinbiyi, on behalf of ADOLFRIC, also extended appreciation to HRH Oba Adejugbe, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, and the Ewi-in-Council for leading the initiative to honour Babalola. He affirmed the profound influence the celebrated statesman has had on his career, calling the event a fitting tribute to a man who has cemented his place in history as a champion of progress in education, healthcare, and beyond.
He concluded by wishing Aare Afe Babalola, the legal luminary and elder statesman, many more years to continue fulfilling his vision for a better life for all, both natives and non-natives alike.
