Ayegunle Leaders Condemn Oba’s ‘Fraudulent’ Dissolution of Town Union
...Calls For Government Intervention
The Leaders of Thought in Ayegunle Ekiti have strongly condemned Oba Johnson Folorunso Aderiye’s recent dissolution of the Ayegunle Progressive Union (APU) executive council, describing the move as fraudulent and a violation of the town’s autonomy. In a press conference held on 26th September 2024, the group labeled the act as a provocation, accusing the Oba of overstepping his authority and causing disharmony in the once-peaceful community.
The leaders alleged that the Oba, alongside his chief, Ilesanmi Oke, and one Matthew Segun Adenle, impersonated APU officials to fraudulently collect government funds for palace renovations. They asserted that the APU operates independently of the Oba’s influence and that his attempt to dissolve its executive council is null and void.
Highlighting the inconsistency in the Oba’s claims, the group pointed out that the recognized APU president, Pastor Felix Olawale Aluko, and secretary, Adeola Ogunleye, were invited to a February 2024 meeting with the Deputy Governor, emphasizing that any “interim council” created by the Oba is illegal.
The Leaders of Thought called on the government to step in and restrain Oba Aderiye, warning that his actions threaten peace in Ayegunle Ekiti.
