Prof. Olofinbiyi Babatunde, a tireless advocate for gender equity and adolescent reproductive health, has been elevated to the prestigious rank of Professor of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by the Senate of Ekiti State University (EKSU). This announcement marks a historic milestone for Iworoko-Ekiti, Dr. Olofinbiyi’s hometown, making him the first ever professor of medicine from the community.

The news was met with jubilant celebrations in Iworoko-Ekiti, with accolades pouring in from the regent, the local council’s Development Area Chairman, and numerous community members. These local leaders expressed pride in Dr. Olofinbiyi’s remarkable achievements, highlighting the profound impact of his journey on the community.

In an exclusive interview, Professor Olofinbiyi expressed his profound gratitude for the recognition and reflected on his challenging path to success. He credited his rise from humble beginnings to the peaks of the medical field to divine favor and the unwavering support he received throughout his career. He specifically thanked EKSU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, for his instrumental role in facilitating his academic advancement, and for his personal support and encouragement.

“Reaching this milestone has been a challenging journey, but I am deeply grateful for all the support I’ve received along the way,” said Professor Olofinbiyi. “I owe a great deal to my parents, Pa Olofinbiyi Kolawole and Mrs. Olofinbiyi Elizabeth, and my benefactors, Alhaji Yakubu Oladoro Sanni and Mrs. Oluwafunke Olofinbiyi, whose love and sacrifices have been invaluable.”

The new professor also recognized the pivotal support from his family, friends, colleagues, and especially his younger colleagues in the medical field, whose assistance has made his journey smoother.

Dr. Olofinbiyi’s achievement is also a testament to the opportunities provided by the former Governor Ayo Fayose-led Ekiti State Government, which allowed him the unique privilege of a five-year in-service training to specialize in medicine.

According to a press release by Mr.Tosin Olowo,Director of Corporate Affairs and Social Responsibility, ADOLFRIC,the initiative emphasized government’s commitment to strengthening local talent and advancing the medical profession in the state.
