Demonstrating his commitment to prioritize the welfare of retirees, Ekiti State Governor Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji announced the disbursement of over 500 million naira in gratuity payments to state pensioners from the 2013/2014 period.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the state government’s dedication to supporting its senior citizens.
He stressed the importance of fulfilling promises made to pensioners, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to address backlogs of gratuities whenever funds are available.
Gov.Oyebanji highlighted ongoing efforts to provide monthly pensions to over 9,700 pensioners, totaling more than 600 million naira, since the inception of his administration.
Despite economic challenges, Governor Oyebanji assured pensioners of the state government’s commitment to allocating 100 million naira monthly for state pensioners and an additional 100 million naira for local government pensioners, totaling 200 million naira monthly. He instructed that these funds be disbursed without ceremony until a committee resolves outstanding gratuity issues.
Following the governor’s remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) delivered a speech commending Governor Oyebanji’s unwavering support for retirees. The Permanent Secretary highlighted the administration’s efforts in clearing outstanding pension arrears and implementing palliative measures to alleviate economic hardships faced by pensioners.
During the presentation ceremony, Governor Oyebanji distributed gratuity cheques to 152 beneficiaries, amounting to 500 million naira. The administration’s total gratuity payments to date stand at 1.7 billion naira, reflecting Governor Oyebanji’s steadfast commitment to the well-being of retirees in Ekiti State.
