Ekiti Prepares to Host 64th National Council on Health Meeting

Ekiti State is gearing up to host the 64th National Council on Health (NCH), an event of national significance that will convene over 800 participants in Ado Ekiti from 13th to 17th November.

The Minister of Health and the Minister of State for Health will lead a distinguished assembly, which includes state commissioners for Health, permanent secretaries, leaders of institutions, international development agencies, drug manufacturing companies, researchers, and health workers, to the AB Event Centre in Ado Ekiti.

The NCH is the highest national policy-making and advisory body in the health sector. This year’s session will center around the theme “Building a Resilient and Inclusive Healthcare System for Healthy Nigeria.” It will serve as a platform for stakeholders in the health sector to deliberate on crucial programs and policies and forge new strategies to advance healthcare in the nation.

Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the Commissioner for Health, Ekiti State, expressed that the council meeting is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s shared commitment to advancing healthcare, improving community well-being, fostering the development of healthcare professionals, and enhancing healthcare infrastructure nationwide.

Dr. Filani underscored the importance of the NCH as a space for exchanging ideas, sharing expertise, and charting a course toward a healthier and more equitable future. He noted that the event would stimulate the local economy through tourism, increased business revenue, and meaningful cooperation among participants.

 

Furthermore, Dr. Filani extended his appreciation to Governor Oyebanji for providing the necessary logistics to ensure a seamless and secure National Council in the state. He highlighted the achievements of the administration in the health sector, such as providing free treatment to over 90,000 vulnerable individuals under the Ulerawa Health Insurance program in the last three months. The administration has also renovated health facilities from primary to tertiary levels, equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

 

Dr. Filani encouraged all Ekiti residents to maintain their renowned hospitality and ensure that the guests enjoy the traditional warmth of Ekiti during the five-day summit.
