Olofinbiyi represents Ekiti at RCOG training of champions on Safe Abortion Initiatives.

...aim is to stop and discourage illegal abortion.

Ekiti state born consultant obstetrics and gynecologist from the Ekiti State University college of medicine/teaching hospital, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Babatunde Olofinbiyi has been chosen as one of the representatives from the South-West by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologist Trained clusters of champions, on safe abortion.

Dr Olofinbiyi who also doubles as the chief executive officer CEO of Adolescent friendly research initiative and care ADOLFRIC, a Nigerian based clinically and research-oriented civil society organization that focuses on adolescent sexual and reproductive health has been chosen as one of the state trainers on safe abortion within the full context of the law.

 

According to a release by the director of corporate affairs and social responsibility, ADOLFRIC, Mr. Tosin Olowo, the royal college of obstetricians and Gynaecologists RCOG is embarking on a training initiative for clusters of champions in five African countries comprising Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Sudan and Nigeria with the team Nigeria also comprising ten professionals led by Prof. Friday Okonofua.

The initiative is premised on making abortion safe in the continent.

The main objective of the initiative is to improve women and girls access to safe abortion within the ambience of the law, post abortion care and contraceptive services.

Inorder to get the advocacy deeply rooted in the 36 states of the federation including the federal capital territory, Abuja , the RCOG collaborated with and sponsored the National champions to train a champion from the states.

However, with the first phase of the training involving a representative from the 17 states in southern Nigeria held at the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital OAUTHC, Ile-Ife, the state champions are to coordinate all issues relating to unsafe abortion at the state level, especially in the areas of professionalism, normalization and leadership.
